The DV Power TRT33A is a Transformer Turns Ratio Tester that is commonly used for measuring the turn ratio of transformers. The turns ratio test is a crucial maintenance test for power transformers. The tester is designed to provide accurate turns ratio measurements with a precision of 0.05%.
The device is part of the TRT Standard Series and is a fully automatic test set. It is specifically designed for conducting turns ratio, phase shift, and excitation current measurements. With its advanced features and capabilities, the device enables efficient and reliable testing of transformers.
The DV Power tester is indeed a specialized device that provides accurate and automated measurement of transformer turn ratios. It is commonly used during various stages, including manufacturing, commissioning, and testing of different types of transformers:

  • Power transformer
  • Distribution transformer
  • Instrument transformer

How To Use Transformer Turns Ratio Tester?

The tester is primarily designed for measuring of transformer turn ratio, automatically applying voltages across HV windings, measuring voltages across the unloaded transformer winding and then displaying the ratio of these voltages.
The Transformer Turns Ratio Tester is a precise measuring tool that generates a true single-phase and three-phase AC 50/60 Hz voltage.

Transformer Turns Ratio Tester Design

The device is a reliable test device that can store up to 10 000 measurements in internal memory. A built-in thermal printer is available as an option. DV-TR software is included in the purchasing price and communicates with the TRT03A turns ratio tester via USB or RS232 interface. It allows users to run the test remotely from a PC, download test results, analyze them, and generate fully configurable test reports. As a digital turns ratio meter, it is the ideal choice for industries that require precise and consistent measurement.

Connecting Transformer Turns Ratio Tester to a Test Object

TRT is programmed to automatically test turns ratio, phase shift, and excitation current of power and distribution transformer types defined by CEI/IEC, IEEE, and ANSI standards. Using two sets of four cables, all bushings of the primary and the secondary sides are connected at once.
The TRT device implements Kelvin's (four-point) measurement principle for its connection principle. This principle is designed to enhance the accuracy of measurements by employing separate terminals for voltage generation and voltage measurement.
In this configuration, one side of the measuring clamps is connected to the "Voltage Generate Sense" terminals, while the other side is connected to the "Voltage Measurement Sense" terminals. By doing so, the impact of voltage drops in the voltage generating cables is effectively eliminated from the turns ratio measurement.
This setup ensures precise and reliable voltage readings by minimizing any additional voltage drops that could occur in the measurement setup.
