Motor and Generator Testing
Rotating machines are exposed to different kinds of stress during their lifetime: high or low temperatures, hot spots, surges, partial discharges, over-voltages, contamination, and vibrations. If they are left unattended, premature failure can occur, and the machine can damage itself and cause significant economic losses. By testing and assessing the machine's condition on a regular basis, it is possible to plan repair activities and extend the reliable life of the machine. Some of the tests performed on a motor or generator are three-channel winding resistance measurement, detection of turn-to-turn and phase-to-phase short circuits in the windings, and resistance measurement of solder joints.
