The CAT-P is a DV Power battery-operated handheld tester with 3 timing channels for Online and Offline testing of circuit breakers. It measures and displays graphical results for main contact timing (Offline / Online), open and close coil currents, and analog signals such as DC substation battery voltage.

Intended use
The circuit breaker tester, DV Power CAT-P, is designed to measure the main contact timing of LV and HV circuit breakers with 1 interrupting chamber phase in:
- Offline mode – The timing of the main contacts is obtained while the Circuit Breaker is offline, by using the standard A1 alligator clamps, which can be easily connected to the circuit breaker's main contacts.
- Online (First Trip Test) mode - The timing of the main contacts is obtained by connecting the AC current clamps across the secondary winding of the CTs while the Circuit Breaker is online.
The list of instrument applications includes:
- Measuring the timing of the main contacts (1 break per phase) including pre-insertion resistors (if present) and auxiliary contacts.
- Measuring the resistance of the pre-insertion resistors (if present).
- Evaluating the synchronization between the circuit breaker chambers.
- Coil Control (via external optional Coil Control module)for actuation of circuit breaker’s OPEN and CLOSE coil.
- Pre-trigger time measurement
- Evaluating the state of the substation’s battery.
„First Trip“ Test
The „First Trip“ test or the „Online“ mode testing is important to assess the condition of the coil operating mechanism and provide us with essential information on how the circuit breaker would perform in a real-life fault situation.When the Circuit Breaker is in service, the standard method for offline timing measurement cannot be used. Instead of this method, three AC clamps are connected across the secondary side of the current transformers in each phase.The measurements can be easily triggered by either current (using the DC clamps), connected across the Trip Coil, or voltage (using the provided Voltage Sense test leads). Nevertheless, of the used trigger source, the functional CAT-P instrument will measure the parameters and after the test completion will graphically and numerically display all of the measurements.

DV-Win software provides acquisition and analysis of the test results. Graphical presentation of a variety of measurements and timing test results uses cursors and powerful zoom functions for detailed analysis. Colors, grids, scales and positioning of the test data are all controlled by the user. DV-Win supports an automatic unit conversion (e.g. cycles to seconds or mm to inches). The test records can be exported in .cath file format for further analysis.
