Battery Extra Load Unit DV Power BXL-A

The DV Power BXL-A device is an extra load unit used to increase discharge power of the battery discharge system. It is designed to be used with DV Power Battery Load Units BLU Series, as well as any discharge unit on the market. By increasing the discharge power, BXL-A extra unit speeds up the discharge test. The unit is applicable to check the capacity of battery of any chemistry (Lead-acid, Ni-based, Li-ion, etc).

Intended use DV Power BXL-A

BXL-A extra discharge unit supports BLU devices in measuring the capacity of the batteries by increasing discharge power of the battery discharge system. The BLU & BXL-A system enables measuring the capacity of the batteries that serve as a backup power supply in (but not limited to):

• Power plants 
• Telecommunication systems
• Generator excitation systems 
• Substation

• Protection and control systems

Advantages of battery extra load unit DV Power BXL-A 

BXL-A is a powerful (24,8 kW) but still portable (12,5 kg / 28 lbs.) battery discharge solution. Therefore, it is an ideal add-on to battery discharge test system when capacity of high-capacity batteries should be checked. Additionally, capacity testing is significantly faster when BXL-A unit is used in a system with the main capacity tester.
BXL-A is a universal discharge solution. First, it can be used as an extra discharge unit with any capacity test system. When operating in a system with DV Power BLU devices, BXL-A can be fully controlled by a BLU device. Additionally, it is suitable for any battery of voltages up to 300 V DC.
BXL-A operates as constant resistance load. It provides flexibility in selecting its discharge capabilities.  – several resistances can be set for most nominal battery voltages up to 300 V DC (6 V, 12 V, 24 V, 48 V, 60 V, 110 V, 120 V, 220 V, 240 V, etc).
Number of BXL-A units that can be used in a discharge system is not limited.
Since it is an additional discharge unit, capacity measurement as well as monitoring of all other critical test parameters needs to be provided on the main discharge unit (DV Power BLU Series or other). However, critical end voltage can be set on BXL-A unit – when reached, BXL-A will immediately stop the test and save battery from deterioration and shorter life.
Discharge test on BXL-A unit can be started manually or can be triggered from DV Power BLU units. It is recommended discharge process on BXL-A units to be started simultaneously with the main discharge unit.

Connecting DV Power BXL-A to battery 

BXL-A is provided with a set of current test leads, used to connect the discharge unit to the battery. BXL-A should be connected to the battery terminals in the same way (same point on the battery) as the main discharge unit. If several BXL-A units are used as extra units with DV Power BLU discharge units, special triggering cables can be provided enabling simultaneous start / stop of all included discharge units.
